Banafshehzar
A village gives its fears a face.
The story in brief
Shared hardship in the village of Bayal meets a family’s private loss in a story moving between reality and dream.
About the project
Inspired by a story in Gholam-Hossein Saedi’s The Mourners of Bayal, the film follows a village caught in poverty and illness. Misfortune becomes associated with Mosorkheh, while a journey to seek treatment for the headman’s wife leads his family into loss. Collective fear gives way to an intensely personal, dreamlike experience.
